Charter 77, 2011 - a video work made with residents of Whitstable and screened at Whitstable Library to coincide with the anniversary of the Velvet Revolution 17 November 1989. Participants included a vicar, a musician, a painter, a teacher, a bookseller, a former mayor, an author and a journalist. This work was made in response to our visit to Ricany in the Czech Republic, one of the towns twinned with Whitstable. Charter 77 was created in response to the communist regime in 1977 by Czech authors, playwrights, artists, actors and musicians who were banned from publishing their own work. The document was leaked out of the country in the decade leading up to the Velvet Revolution.
